Choosing A Reiki Teacher
CHOOSING YOUR REIKI TEACHER

It can be rather daunting when you decide to take Reiki Training. There is so much information out there on the internet and it soon becomes overwhelming if you want to be sure you are getting the proper training from a qualified teacher.
You want to know that you will not have to do any of your training over again to become a professional Reiki Practitioner.
Reiki is one of the fastest growing and most effective methods of natural healing that is being taught today. It is very easy to learn, but it still needs to be taught with integrity, knowledge and experience, so that students have every opportunity to become successful and confident Reiki Practitioners. There are many people teaching Reiki classes now. Some are highly qualified and may be just the right teacher for you. The relationship you develop with your Reiki teacher is an important one and can be helpful as you develop your Reiki practice. Be sure to find out if they offer ongoing support or a practice group after you have completed your training.
As well as completing all their Reiki training with a certified teacher, Registered Teachers with the Canadian Reiki Association have completed a practicum, are required to adhere to teaching standards and a code of ethics. As professionals they are accountable to the CRA and must maintain the standards in order to be a Registered Teacher in good standing with the CRA. A CRA registered Teacher (RT CRA) can offer their students CEU's towards their CRA practicum.It is advisable to find a CRA registered teacher if you wish to become a member and receive professional designation. The CRA is the only recognized governing body for Reiki professionals in Canada. Finding a teacher through the CRA website is a good place to start if you are looking for a teacher in any province in Canada. www.reiki.ca
The International Center for Reiki Training founded by William Lee Rand has set high standards in the United states. They train quailified and knowledgable teachers who are kept up to date on all the lastest information. www.reiki.org
It is a good idea to ask your prospective teacher some questions before you decide to sign up for a class. They should be open and willing to answer all your questions and concerns.
Ask the Reiki Master if they personally use Reiki and how they incorporate it into their daily lives. It is a good idea to find out how long have they have been working with Reiki. Ask about the training they have taken and how long they have been teaching. Do they teach all Levels of Usui Reiki? An internet course is not going to give them the experience and knowledge to teach a class, so beware of the internet trained practitioner or teacher. This type of training does not offer any mentorship or hands on practice time with a trained teacher. Find out if they have regular classes and how often they teach. Taking your training with other students is the best way to learn Reiki. The comraderie and experience of working with other students adds to your understanding and confidence. Havign pracice time and learning with a group adds a special value to your training.It often creates long term friendships with like minded people who can acknowledge and support you on your Reiki path.
Usui Reiki originated in Japan. It is the foundation of the Reiki that is being accepted and used all over the world today. It is a good place for the new practitioner to start and if your interest grows you can pursue the more esoteric types of Reiki after you have a firm footing in the Usui system of Reiki. Ask the prospective teacher about their lineage and if this training will initiate you into, or progress you within the Usui lineage? If not, then which lineage is it a part of?
Get a course outline so you know what they will be covering in their classes? How many hours of class time is included? How much time is instructional, and how much is hands on practice?
Find out what the specific things you will be qualified to do after taking the training? How much is the course fee and what is included? Ask if there a Reiki support group in your area or can they help you find one?
Be sure that the Reiki Teacher will openly support you in being a successful Reiki practitioner or teacher. A Reiki Master who withholds information or support could be afraid you might compete with them then they will not give you the support you need.
A Reiki master who is truly walking their talk will understand that competition and fear based controlling behaviours are not part of being a congruent professional teacher.
Be aware of Reiki Teachers who insist that you must take all your training from them or insist you take an overwhelming multitude of levels of training and are not willing to acknowlege any previous training you have taken.
Be sure that they have a positive respectful attitude toward other Reiki Practitioners and Teachers, regardless of lineage or affiliation.
Be aware of how you feel about the answers you receive an how you are being treated. Are they responding in a respectful manner that is supportive and empowering?
Above all… Listen to your heart and you will be guided to the right teacher.
Reiki I/II
A two part course designed for those who are already trained in some type of enery work or those who feel they are ready to move a little faster in their study of Reiki. We recommend that you use your own inner guidance as to whether or not you wish to take both levels in a weekend intensive.
This 20 hour course consists of the following training:

Preparing for classes: To enhance your experience of the attunement it is suggested that before the class you: eliminate the use of caffeine, don't drink alcohol, minimize or stop eating sweets, cut back or eliminate smoking, don't eat meat, meditate one-half to one hour per day or spend time in silence, reduce or eliminate TV, radio, and reading newspapers; go for walks, spend time in nature, get some exercise, release anger, fear, jealousy, hate, worry, and envy; read material that is uplifting and inspiring.
Most importantly. . . do not consume nicotine, caffeine, alcohol or any other type of stimulant on the day of your initiation.
Reiki Master
Prerequisite: Advanced Reiki Training.
This course is recommended for those who wish to teach Reiki. This intensive course teaches the student how to pass on the Reiki attunement and how to teach Reiki to others.
- Advanced Reiki meditations that harmonize the energy of the chakras and align you with your guides.
- Instruction on how to give Reiki Healing attunements and the attunements for Reiki I&II and ART and full Reiki Master.
- How to do a self-attunement and a distance attunement.
- The Usui system of attunements and the Usui/Tibetan system used by the International Center for Reiki Training. (Two Tibetan symbols are given along with the four Usui symbols)
- Reiju Empowerment
- The healing attunement is given and received by all students. There will be plenty of time to practice doing attunements so that each student is confident with administering all the attunements.
- The requirements and responsibility of being a true Reiki Master.
This is a very powerful healing experience as students practice giving attunements on each other so that each student receives many attunements.
The Master Manual and all class materials are included in the cost.

Reiki Kids
A Creative Exploration of Energy
Reiki Kids for children ages 5 to 12
at Eramosa Eden Retreat Center, Eden Mills Ontario
Bringing together Reiki and the Young is a sure recipe for magic on Earth. This program is designed for children that march to their own beat and hear the sounds and feelings of all. These young ones are manifest on this planet as teachers, guides and leaders and bringing Reiki to them enables clarity and validation of their inherent abilities. An attunement is offered during this workshop, the acceptance of which is entirely up to the child. The emphasis is placed on experiencing Reiki and putting words and feelings to this experience through art, movement and sound.
The workshop is conducted in a child friendly environment. Parents may stay in a helping capacity. There will be creative work and physical play, as such comfortable clothes are essential. Snacks and refreshments will be made available, please inform us well in advance of any allergies.
This is a one day workshop getting in touch with subtle energy and learning simple methods of using Reiki. This course is designed to be fun and interesting for children who have an awareness of their energetic being and would like to spend time in a nurturing, supportive atmosphere which allows them to explore their unique potential.

Reiki Kids class materials for Reiki Masters
"Reiki Kids" Manual — Barbara has created a book called "Reiki Kids" which is given to each child in the class. It is a simple 20 page, colouring book style manual, that the children can follow along with during the class. The book includes a simple history of Reiki, an explanation of Reiki, the energy field (chakras, aura etc), how to sense energy, the Reiki attunement and how to use Reiki. Reiki Kids Teaching Guide for Reiki Masters
There is also a Teaching Guide for Reiki Masters. The Teaching Guide is 28 pages of instructions and suggestions on how to use the Reiki Kids book and how to teach Reiki to children.

Karuna Reiki Master
This class is for anyone who has had Reiki Master training. It is recommended that you have been a Reiki Master for at least 1 year before taking Karuna Reiki® Master training. Students who have received their Advanced Reiki Training certificate may take the first two days of the class to receive Level one and two Karuna Reiki® Practitioner certification.Contact Barbara for details 519-823-1262
The Master class is complete with two levels, two attunements, four master symbols and eight treatment symbols. The International Center for Reiki Training experimented with and taught this system for two years and found it to be effective and powerful. The energy has a more definite feeling to it. It works on the emotional and spiritual levels and also can help one become more grounded.
Those who receive the attunements report experiences with their guides, angels, and higher self and feel the healing presence of other enlightened beings. Both levels of Karuna Reiki® and both attunements will be given as well as instruction and practice on the use of all twelve symbols. You will be able to teach all levels of Karuna Reiki®, two practitioner levels and the Master level after taking this class. Reiki Drumming - Prerequisite: Level II Reiki

The drum is an ancient instrument dating back tens of thousands of years. It has been used for healing, celebration, ritual, worship, rites of passage, divination, communicating tribe to tribe, and with the earth and spirit realms. The drumbeat lifts and carries us easily into these deeper rhythms, and as it does another world is revealed. We are transported to a field of vibration where body, mind, soul, nature, spirit, and the cosmos dance together.
Drumming is a powerful experience, it all stems from the reality that we are cradled in a world of rhythm. Everything that exists is vibratory. This is true for stars, planets and all matter. It is the Primal Pulse, the Universal Heartbeat, and the true Mother that unites us all. Drumming wakes up the life force deep within the cells of our being that release the memories and knowing of who we really are. The drum becomes the voice that takes you inside to a deeper understanding beyond words and images.
When we combine the energy of the drum with Reiki we have a healing method that takes the power of Reiki to a new and profound level of healing. With each drumbeat we are able to send Reiki deep into the physical and subtle bodies simultaneously. Every organ, every cell in the body is a drum and drumming reminds our body of its ideal vibratory rate, which is in harmony with the pulse of the Earth and the Universal flow of creation. Reiki Drumming creates a harmony that raises the vibratory rate to levels, which allow the body to accelerate its innate healing abilities.

Barbara McKell is a registered Teacher with the Canadian Reiki Association. She is an Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master, a Karuna Reiki® Master, certified Sound Healer, certified Master Practitioner of Reiki Drumming and drum circle facilitator. Barbara works with sound and vibration in her healing practice, using chanting, toning, drumming, crystal bowls and chimes. Barbara was trained by Michael Arthur Baird in the methods of Reiki Drumming and Reiki Drum Journeying in 2002. She received her Sound Healing certification from Jonathan Goldman in 2004. Her classes are in depth, fun and inspiring.
Advanced Reiki Training, ART
Prerequisite: Level II Reiki Training
The course consists of the following training:

- Advanced Reiki techniques including:

As our consciousness changes we begin to look for a vacation that allows us to "get in touch with", rather than wanting to "get away from". While it used to be sufficient to relax and rejuvenate, we are now looking for a vacation that is fulfilling on all levels, embracing our need to get in touch with things on a deeper level.
