Sound healing
"Sound structures energy fields and brings the physical into existence.”
Sound Healing is a vibrational therapy that is being incorporated into many energy medicine practices. Sound Healing works on the belief that the human body is not solid. Rather it is energy that is held together by sound. Sound is a creative and formative power. The Practitioner uses sound to create balance and alignment in the physical body, the energy centers called “chakras”, the meridians and the etheric field.
While the use of sound and music for healing is ancient and is found in many spiritual and sacred traditions, it is a relatively new modality in the modern complementary healing arts. Sound Healing encompasses virtually all aspects of the auditory phenomenon… music, drumming, nature sounds, electronic sounds, and vocal sounds.
All things in nature vibrate with sound, light and color. Everything is made up of energy at various frequencies. Sound frequencies affect everything about us. While certain sounds affect us negatively, the correct vibrational frequencies can be used to heal and balance our bodies.
Your body and all its parts are a wondrous orchestra that is playing a beautiful symphony when you are healthy. If one player in the orchestra begins to play out of tune, playing the wrong notes with the wrong timing pretty soon that begins to affect the whole orchestra. This is what happens in the body when one part of the body is not in harmony.
Disease indicates that something is out of tune. Currently, our medical approach to dealing with this problem is to either to sedate it with drugs or to remove the part that is no longer functioning properly. The premise of Sound Healing is to simply re-frequence the out of tune, cell, organ, or entire body.
With the intent of creating the correct resonant frequency for a part of the body, organ or cell, which is vibrating out of harmony, and projecting this frequency into that area the practitioner can restore the imbalanced area back to its natural resonant frequency.
There are many methods of Sound healing. Musical instruments can be used. Sacred vessels, bells, tuning forks, drums and voice are just some of the ways Sound Healers project sound for healing. No matter what is used intention is one of the most important components of Sound Healing. Intention plus frequency equals healing. When the healer combines these two factors with intuition and total presence, profound transformation is possible.
Crystal Bowls
The singing Crystal bowls are one of the most powerful sonic healing tools we have today. The crystal bowls have been brought into healing practices through technological advances. The bowls were originally created in the Silicon Valley to grow the crystals for computer chips.
We have discovered that each bowl can be tuned to resonate with a particular chakra. When the bowls are sounded, the clear tones of the crystal bowls move through the body in vibrant waves, calming, aligning, and healing the energy centers and auric field. Scientific studies show that sound waves produce changes in the autonomic, immune, endocrine and neuropeptide systems of the physical body.
The calming sound waves which emanate from the bowls immediately put the brain into the alpha state. They speak to the entire body vibrating each, organ cell and atom. Shaking loose old patterns, realigning and refrequencing and allowing us to easily access higher states of consciousness.
Private Sound Healing Sessions
Barbara has created a Temple of Sound in her healing room. In this sacred space a bath of sound reunites and reconnects the client to the Music of the Spheres. It is in this awareness you hear the universal harmony, which resonates within your own body. There is a connection with your soul’s purpose and recognition of the inter connectivity and sacred relationship with every living thing. This unification increases your ability to hear the strange music, which is recognized at the deepest level of the soul.
Group Meditations and Sound Healing Sessions
The bowls are wonderful to use with a large group. Barbara does group presentations in churches, yoga studios and sacred spaces. Her presentation called “Celestial Awakening” uses the crystalline frequencies to connect to the light body and the celestial realms. This is an intimate and powerful session with the bowls creating strong concentrated light forces that awaken our divine light.
Another of Barbara’s presentations incorporates a guided meditation called “A Journey Through the Chakras”. The journey takes the group through the seven chakras, tuning and re-frequencing each chakra. The effect of doing group work is very powerful and everyone benefits both individually and collectively.
Tibetan Bowls
Tibetan singing bowls are sound generating instruments traditionally used by Tibetan Buddhists as meditation aids. These bowls are made of metal. You make the bowl "sing" by continuously rubbing a hard stick known as a "Puja" around the outside rim of the bowl. When rubbed in this manner, the bowl resonates with two pure tones. This is due to the shape of the bowl, the rim thickness and the relative masses of the rim and base of the bowl. The sound is beautiful, haunting and unique to each bowl. Each vessel is a relic of discovery to awaken the divine that is innate within us.
Tuning Forks
The sound waves of the tuning forks vibrate and travel deeply into the body along energy pathways, affecting human physiology and reaching places not easily accessed by traditional medicine. The sounding of the forks stimulates and balances the body's physical and subtle energy field to promote healing and inner harmony. Listening to the forks speaks to us deeply accessing our sense of motion, balance, space, memory, and healing.
Drumming
The drum is one of the most ancient instruments dating back tens of thousands of years. It has been used for healing, celebration, ritual, worship, rites of passage, divination, communicating tribe to tribe, and with the earth and spirit realms. Drumming connects us with the deeper rhythms of life.
Drumming increases our Alpha brainwaves, those brainwaves associated with feelings of well being and euphoria. As the drum provides seemingly limitless ranges of emotions from deep relaxation to extraordinary aliveness, we can explore the vast range of experiences offered by shamanic drumming, from its ability to create euphoria to its deep and sacred power to heal.
By drumming over the body each drum beat sends healing deep into the physical and subtle bodies simultaneously. Every organ, every cell in the body is a drum and drumming reminds our body of its ideal vibratory rate, which is in harmony with the pulse of the earth and the Universal flow of creation. Drumming creates a harmony that raises the vibratory rate to levels, which allow the body to accelerate its innate healing abilities.
Chakra Chimes
With the Chakra Chimes long sustaining notes are produced by striking the aluminum bars with a rubber mallet. Pure tones are produced in wave patterns corresponding to the body’s seven primary chakras. As well, there is an eighth note representing the first chakra over your head, known as the transpersonal point or soul star.
The chakra chimes use ancient Pythagorean tuning, which is said to bring harmony to the soul and body in a very special way. Pythagoras recognized that music was an expression of harmony, the divine principle that brings order to chaos and discord. Sounding these beautiful chimes during periods of relaxation balances and harmonize the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Bells and Tingsha
Bells and chimes tend to provide a gentle focus for the clearing of the mind. Bells and Tibetan Tingsha have a wonder way of clearing discordant energy from a room, person, or object. The Tibetan Tingsha, or hand cymbal, is rung to start or end a meditation, a teaching, or simply to create a moment of quiet concentration. The Tingsha is made from a combination of metals, which create a beautiful, sweet ring, when struck. Following the sound with ones attention clears the mental chatter producing a sense of stillness, clarity of mind.
“The human voice has the power to mold the substance of astral light into shape and form.”
Toning
Toning is vocalizing a pure sound and requires no singing ability whatsoever. Creating sound in this way has a powerful healing effect on all levels. The vibrations massage the vocal chords and course throughout the whole body, leaving it humming with vitality. The mind is also refreshed and clarified by being cleared of its usual distractions. Toning is excellent for those who 'can't sing' and encourages confidence in self-expression in those with low self-esteem. An invigorating sound bath can be given by a group to an individual, in which they are bathed for a prolonged period in the vibration of a group toning. This often gives rise to powerful feelings of support and connection.
Chanting
The repetitive use of sound or a phrase to induce trance, invoke a deity, or enter an enhanced state of consciousness is called chanting. The repetition stills the everyday mind and frees the creativity of the unconscious mind, giving rise to visions or a sense of blissfulness. A mantra or spiritually significant word or phrase is often used. Particular mantras will stimulate specific chakras, to open them up and move energy from one center to another.
Music
Our intuitive selection of harmonious music can become a very important part of our everyday environment to support tranquility and wellness. Music is the language of the soul, which connects us to our spiritual nature. Our world is blessed with a fine selection of music that is created to inspire, relax, energize, heal and keep us well. Music is a way to tap into the innate knowledge that resides deep in our cells. We live "in" music. Great music nourishes us in ways we don't even realize. It resides everywhere in our world. Music is the pulse of the energy that courses in and through everything.
“We are each an active conductor and participant in the process of orchestrating health.”
